PSI Exams

5/15/24 Update

When you are approved to test, you will receive an email both from our office, letting you know that your eligibility has been submitted to PSI along with a quick quiz on our State Act and Board Rules to be submitted back upon successful examination. You will also receive an email from PSI with a link to get scheduled for your exam, on that link there will be a candidate bulletin off to the side which you can click on for more information on the exam (number of questions, time, and topic categories, along with what you are able to bring to the exam).

If you have questions or would like a copy of the candidate bulletin, please reach out to Allyson at:

New Exam Provider 10-1-23

The State Electrical Board has approved a switch in exam providers from ICC to PSI

Beginning October 1st, 2023, testing for Electrical Contractor, Journeyman, and Residential Wireman exams will be moving from ICC to PSI. With this transition comes several changes. I have listed some of the most important changes to note below.

  1. In the past, the Nebraska State Electrical Division has been the one to issue approval notices. This will no longer be the case. If you apply and are approved to take an exam, we will reach out to PSI with your eligibility, and they will notify you of this approval via email.
  2. There will be no option for at home testing. If you are approved to test through PSI, you will be taking your exam at one of their testing site locations. In Nebraska they have sites in Grand Island, Lincoln, Norfolk, North Platte, Omaha, Scottsbluff, and Sidney. PSI has alternate locations outside of Nebraska. If there is a demand for additional site locations, please let us know your recommendations and we will work with PSI to set those up if need be.
  3. The time allowed per each exam, and number of questions have changed also. Please see the candidate bulletin when you schedule your exam for info on the time you will receive to test per each exam.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out either via phone at (402) 471-1058 or by email to Allyson.Crawford-Thi@nebraska.gov or SED.Officestaff@nebraska.gov
