License Renewal is now OPEN, please see below for next steps: Renewal Guide_1.pdf
All electrical licenses and apprentice registrations issued by the State Electrical Board and expire on December 31 of even-numbered year.
In order to renew any license, the holder must provide a certificate for proof of attendance of at least 12-hours of continuing education approved by the State Electrical Board, with at least six of those hours covering the National Electrical Code. These hours are not required to renew an apprentice registration.
On August 1 & September 1 of even-numbered years, and only as a courtesy extended by the Board, license renewal notices are sent by email to the last known email address of all license and registration holders.
If renewal is not completed by December 1, a 10% late fee will be assessed for anyone who renews between December 1 & December 31.
The holder of an expired license may not install electrical equipment and must apply to take the exam to obtain a new license. Apprentice registrations that have expired require the holder to submit an application for a new registration with no exam required.
It is a Class IV felony to complete electrical work in the State of Nebraska without a proper license or registration.
All licenses and registrations may be renewed online (on and after October 1 of the even-numbered year)
For those who cannot renew online, please see paper form: 2026 Renewal form.pdf
